No

MGED gui will not start. I am not sure why. There is only a vague error when trying to start it.

ccooper@jobox:~$ mged
invalid command name "gui"
MGED unable to initialize gui, reverting to classic mode.
attach (nu|X|ogl)[nu]? ogl
Starting an ogl display manager
mged>

No window opens up, I am under the impression one should?

Attaching a file with output to show linker is finding libraries properly and that things are on the path correctly.

Sorry for the spam, I suppose it would be helpful to add which version I am using.

Was this a binary distribution or an install that you compiled yourself? Receiving a "gui" error usually implies that there is something wrong with Tcl/Tk. If you compiled, try compiling again but run "sh autogen.sh" first and then run configure with --enable-all and see if that helps.

This was the latest binary distribution 7.12.2.

Hm, then the problem is very likely due to the face that OpenGL is the default. Try this instead:

    mged -c
    [attach nu]
    set mged_default(dm_type) X
    gui

See if the gui springs to life that way. Let me know if it does.

If not, you can either 1) utilize classic mode (attach X should work), 2) compile an installation of BRL-CAD yourself (so you can turn off the ogl interface), or 3) wait for our next binary release (where we usually turn off ogl).
