This control was change from the original into 'Global Volume' from 'Initial Volume' of the VCA. The reason is that we were using polyphonic key assignment so having an initial level which would have given 'droning' in the actual synth, here it would have just been a 'key gate' for the MIDI events.
Since the introduction of the monophonic key logic there are actually some uses for this control: in mono mode the voice will constantly drone and gives a better emulation of the original that way. That kind of justifies the implementation.
I am proposing the introduction of 2 new volume controls:
Memory Volume - stored with each memory to equalise them although the final mixer stage can already do that.
Initial Volume - base signal gain for the VCA.
Global volume will remain the same except it will be taken out of the memories, ie, it is set for each session and applies to EQ for the synth for the duration of the session.
