I suggest to use the CMake tool infrastructure so that more compilers and implementation variants can be supported for your software.
I took a look at CMake a few years ago and considered using it for BoCA and BonkEnc 1.1.
Found it too complex and difficult to familiarize with, though. Not as bad as Autotools, but the possible benefit for my projects still just didn't seem worth the effort.
I might consider it again at a later date when I may need extensive multi-platform support and such, but for now it's working fine as it is.
