After ripping, my cd drive doesn't stop. It spins for ~30 secs, even when I close freac. Can somebody confirm this?

That's just normal behaviour.
Every CD/DVD drives keeps spinning for ~30 to 60 seconds after the last read to avoid having to spin up again if another read occurs during that time.
The number of seconds the drive keeps spinning depends on its firmware.
Oh ok. Its just annoying, because it spins on full speed. But if you can't change that...
You can limit ripping speed in the ripper options. Ripping will take longer then, of course.
