I created a wxDialog and tried to rename it in the designer, when
posting I get the following attribute error:
AttributeError: DialogDTC instance has no attribute 'newUnusedItemNames'

Thanks for the report, this is a nasty one, even though it looks like it
should only happen when you use an window id that clashes with a
wxPython standard id. Even when I change the id of a button to e.g.
wxID_OK before opening the Designer (the standard use case) the
problem is still not triggered, so I don't actually know how to
reproduce the problem yet ;)
Nevertheless the newUnusedItemNames call is clearly wrong and I've
commited a fix to CVS.
Please see if it's fixed for you now.
I'm still curious about how you caused it. If you still have the
generated source which can demonstrate this problem please mail it
