hi, as you can see from my last email, i'm excited about using the piano roll. i just wanted to mention something strange that i'm noticing on mac os x using a powerbook. i tried to delete a note by selecting it and hitting the delete key but nothing happens. after some experimenting, i found that hitting function-delete does the job. best, paris |

Hi Paris, Glad to hear your family situation is ok! Also glad that the piano roll is working out now. As for delete, I notice on PC's (Linux or Windows), the key that is labelled delete deletes the character ahead of the cursor, while the backspace key does a delete to the left of the cursor. On my gf's iBook, the key I associate with backspace from the PC world is labeled delete. I also notice that I have to end up using the delete key when using OSX at work to do what I would associate with the PC delete key, not the backspace key. So, it's all a bit strange in the end. I think for Mac users, using the delete key (PC backspace key) is the general norm for removing groups of objects. I'll see if I can find out what that key is on OSX and set that to delete groups of objects for the PianoRoll, groups of SoundObjects, and also groups of objects in the BlueSynthBuilder. On the other hand, the easier solution would be to be able to select a group of notes and right-click for a popup menu and have the option to delete the notes. Or maybe both would be best. =) Not sure if I can try out modifying the delete key thing on OSX until tomorrow when I get to work. I'll try to add a popup for removing notes today. steven p.s. - Current CVS has zooming of note heights and pixels per second for the pianoRoll. =) Paris wrote: > hi, > > as you can see from my last email, i'm excited about using the piano > roll. > i just wanted to mention something strange that i'm noticing on mac os > x using a powerbook. > > i tried to delete a note by selecting it and hitting the delete key > but nothing happens. > after some experimenting, i found that hitting function-delete does > the job. > > best, > paris > > > > ------------------------------------------------------- > SF email is sponsored by - The IT Product Guide > Read honest & candid reviews on hundreds of IT Products from real users. > Discover which products truly live up to the hype. Nice. Good timing, too, since I'm working with a scale that has 32 notes per octave, so this really helps! - Dave steven yi wrote: > p.s. - Current CVS has zooming of note heights and pixels per second for > the pianoRoll. =) |

^_^ It's been on my todo list for a while and finally had a little blue programming time yesterday. I'm going to put in an hour or two into programming blue today as well; things are slowing down on my end as I've started to get more and more into a composition, but hopefully will have a little time daily to get to the rest of the issues. The one thing I did notice yesterday was that there is a fixed size for fonts when rendering the labels on the left header. When the noteheight gets to a certain size, the labels start to overlap. I'm not sure how big a deal this is as when the size gets that small it make it harder to use the piano roll as well, so maybe there's a natural limit anyways and in general use it won't be a problem. But perhaps some font size changes are in order if the note height gets to be a certain size. steven Dave Seidel wrote: > Nice. Hi Steven, Thanks for the good wishes and as for the delete key situation - no hurry to figure this out - i've got a full week ahead of me and won't get much time to experiment until the weekend. Just as an FYI on the power book, i don't seem to have a backspace, just one delete key and oddly it works just find in the piano roll as long as i use it with the Function key depressed as well. I tried right clicking on the selected note(s) but nothing happens. Again - a big thanks for adding this feature!! Good point, although I haven't seen this on my machine yet -- I suspect that if I shrink it down that far, it will be too small to work with anyhow. But it might be good to work a font size change into the algorithm at some point. - Dave steven yi wrote: > ^_^ > > It's been on my todo list for a while and finally had a little blue > programming time yesterday.
