My impression is that Pat has other full-time efforts aside from BeanShell
so effort only goes into the project on occassions where Pat has free time
and interest in doing so, and when he isn't writing a book.
I am one of the guys running the Open For Business Project, and while we
have been able to keep things going pretty regularly I understand the
pressures that naturally pull one away from working on an open source
We are using BeanShell in various places in OFBiz and find it very useful.
Actually right now we are using a variation of the 1.3 alpha code base from
CVS. Pat had a few things, like a reflection meta-data cache for method
calls based on signature, that were mostly implemented. We were very
interested in that cache so I finished it up and did some testing and
profiling on it. I have the code changes and have also submitted them back
to Pat, but understandably he is busy right now and hasn't been able to do
much on BeanShell.
I don't really know what Pat's views are on this, but I and others using
OFBiz are quite interested in seeing BeanShell move forward and we could on
occassion contribute development effort to the project. However, there is
still a need for someone to coordinate and "own" the project like Pat is
Pat, if you are still interested in this role then I'm fine with supporting
you in that way. The fact that interruptions and delays happen is natural
and not grounds for some sort of project fork, unless your intention for the
project has changed and you are no longer interested in acting as the
Anyway, it's good to see that others are interested in BeanShell as well.
