I have been trying to get reasonable barcodes to be generated from barcode4j and jasper reports on a Citizen CLP-621 203dpi label printer. Ultimately, we have determined that if one creates a pdf w/ a barcode (as small as possible) and prints it using Adobe Reader 7.0 (print as image) a scannable barcode is produced. However, if that same pdf is printed with Adobe Reader 8 or 9, the barcode appears scaled which results in very thick bars that are no longer scannable. In fact, it almost looks like Adobe Reader converted the svg barcode to 72dpi and then sent to the printer. Does anyone have any experience with this? We have a web-based application where our customers will need to print these barcodes, and having them downgrade to Adobe Reader 7.0 is not a desirable option. :) FYI -- our barcodes must be very small to fit on the label -- these ones produced with Code128A and a barWidth that amounts to 1 pixel @ 203dpi comes in (without quiet zone) at about 14mm (I believe when I dumped the SVG it indicated it was 18mm). The barcode can not be larger than 20mm and fit on the label. Bob Morley |
