Hi, I turned on the GZIP, then the GZIP1 switch, associated with my test fileset. Before compression, I was getting write throughput in the 1,068,000 bytes/sec range. With GZIP compression, I was getting throughput in the 180,000 bytes/sec range. The situation did not improve when I switched to GZIP1. The degradation in performance makes the proposed backup, about 24 gig, take too long. I am running a PIII at 500mhz with an OnStream SC30(scsi) tape drive with RH7.1 and the 2.4.2 kernel. Is there anything I can do to get back to the 1 mbtyes/second write range with compression enabled? Thanks for your help. Bill ps. The onstream osst driver does not support the sc30's hardware compression. -- William L. Brown Work: 603-465-2114 Fax: 603-465-2114 Cell: 617-803-9156 Email: bb...@ad... Home: 603-465-2948 |
