Keeping the format similar and simply appending variable-length data per-file would be good. I should have added a flag for optional per-file data. But a new magic number is an easy change. Beyond the file format, I assume you are planning on transferring all the POSIX and ACL data together with the normal attributes. I assume this data doesn't get too big, so there is no need to also use an rsync-like algorithm on this data... How about apple resource file forks? They should probably be mapped to a separate file (like xtar), rather than considered part of the attribs. Craig |
