an archiving feature that does allow backups to be written to tape
or other permanent media such as CDR etc. It was contributed by
Josh Marshall. For CDR it can split the output archives across
650MB chunks (user settable).
It works by allowing you to select a list of hosts. The latest backup
for each selected host is tar'ed up and written to the output media of
your choice. The relevant command for each media type is configurable.
The permanent media format is just standard tar files, which has the
advantage of being extractable without BackupPC. However, it does
mean the tape format does not take advantage of file pooling etc.
So the first version is somewhat manual, but is a great start to
providing a permanent-media backend for BackupPC.
