I rolled a backuppc server into production over the weekend, but haven't
had anything but trouble really. Is anyone else backing up relatively
large stuff with SMB? Over a wan or slower lan?
The backuppc server is on a 2Mbps wan link from the stuff being backed up,
about 30ms away. It's obviously not as fast as a lan, but it's pretty
snappy. However I haven't had much luck getting BackupPC to work in the
scenerio. It'll run for several hours (or the better part of a day), and
finally die with a "received signal=ALRM". I did get a 300mb backup to
work, but anything over that seems to be problematic. The 300mb backup
also took several hours, far longer than I would expect it to.
I assume switching to rsync may solve some of this, but we're going to be
waiting on the 'official' win32 rsync package to do so.
Any other experiences in this area?
