I have used BackupPC for some time now and I would just like to start by saying
thanks for all the hard work in making this excellent tool! I use it in all of
the variety of small businesses I do part time work for while not at
University. Both my employers and I have been very impressed by the
reliability and ease of use (once set up) of BackupPC.
Has any work been done so far on creating some CGI scripts to edit configuration
values as shown on the road map? I can understand that this is probably a low
priority for you but it would be a great help to someone like myself if I could
hand off some of the configuration work to my less Unix friendly colleagues.
I think that something like the Samba project's SWAT interface would be good to
start with. This provides a fairly basic (in terms of the HTML (and probably
CGI) used) pages for editing the main and per-shared-directory configuration
parameters. The shared directory configuration pages show, by default, the
values of the configuration parameters from the main section. These values can
then be changed and only the changed configuration parameters and values are
saved to the relevant section of the configuration file (in BackupPC's case
this would be the per host configuration files).
I would like to help develop these scripts if I can so please send me any ideas
or suggestions on how they should work.
