Hello,

in the main table listing visitors, visits, hits and bandwidth, it would be much more interesting to know the "Median" rather than the "Average", or maybe both. The average, as a measure, is sensitive to perturbations. You experience this in two ways:

  • if your website collects 50 visits a day, and you get slashdotted for 12 hours, the average would show a totally distorted "half a million visits a day" for the current month.
  • if you run AWStats on a hosting provider that makes your logs available with delay (for example because they filter out your logs from the trunk only after one week) AWStats will report a distorted value. Say eg that you get the logs one week late, for the past week. AWStats will compute the average with up to 16 days with 0 visits.

The median is much more robust to these effects.
