Though i dont use mkI, i managed to get mkII work from the avarice cvs and i use mkII to debug tinyos applications. Which one are you using? Have u set the AVARICE_ARGS variable.I use AVARICE_ARGS='--mkII -j /dev/com1' Have a look at http://www.tinyos.net/tinyos-1.x/doc/nesc/debugging.html Normally i use COM1 to connect to mkII. I run tinyos-1.1.14 If not may be tinyos mailing list would be useful Regards, Thomas --- Salvatore Bellofiore <bel...@ho...> wrote: --------------------------------- Hi All, I am trying to debug using JTAG and ice-insight. First, I am using AVR Studio 4 and the AVR JTAG-ICE by Atmel, and I am able to communicate with the mica2. In other words, I am able to program the mica2 through the JTAG, erase its FLASH, and also read its voltage. So, I believe I have the JTAG-ICE set up correctly. Then, I am trying to use ice-insight to debug my program (step-by-step). When I launch the ice-insight application at the command prompt (ice-insight build/mica2/main.exe), I get the following error: AVaRICE version 2.0.20030825cvs, Aug 25 2003 20:53:25 Failed to open COM4: Permission denied I am using COM4 to connect the JTAG-ICE from my PC through the RS-232 to the mica2. Then, the AVR Studio application opens the communication. If I terminate the AVR Studio, then ice-insight complains that there is no JTAG-ICE communication. The exact error is: AVaRICE version 2.0.20030825cvs, Aug 25 2003 20:53:25 JTAG ICE communication failed: Inappropriate ioctl for device What am I doing wrong? and How do I solve this problem? In case it makes a difference, I am using TinyOS 1.1.14.
