Your first one works fine for me. Be aware that it returns a result that is a
sound that is a different sample rate than the original sound (fewer samples).
Audacity will display it as if it was at the same sample rate as the original,
so the time will be MUCH shorter.

The second one should fail because the extra parenthesis at the beginning will
cause a syntax error in lisp.

The third one will cause a syntax error also, because of the extra parenthesis
around the snd-avg function. Even if you fix the syntax, the third one only
defines a function; it does not execute it. You would need a second line to
execute it, something like "(avg-snd s)".

Focus on your first try; it should work. If it fails, be sure to try clicking
the "Debug" button and writing down what you see. If there are any error
messages, they might help you. If you post them here, we may be able to help
you, too!
