Markus This is pretty normal, I think, although reducing the number of steps would be desirable. (How many times have I told my students to leave time for the reverb tails, be it on tape or computer?) You can speed operations up a little by not changing tools and using the keyboard. Here is my suggestion, with a couple of ideas of changes that could be made: 1. Select word in first track 2. Edit / Duplicate (I think this is just a typo) (Ctrl+D) 3. Down arrow - Enter/Return - Up arrow 4. Ctrl+L 5. In the second track, click anywhere to the right of the new clip. 6. Create/Silence/OK. (Ctrl+L could 'Generate Silence' here in the selected (blank) region of the selected track) 7. Select (click-sweep mouse over) end of new 'word' and new 'silence' 8. Edit Join Ctrl+J 9. Double-click on new clip (now with silence) 10. Do Effect/Echo (or Reverb, or whatever) (Could continue effect into the space after the clip, if there is any, not easy) 11. Select All, then "Mix and Render". HTH Martyn In a message dated 06/11/2006 18:09:47 GMT Standard Time, me...@me... writes: Hi, imagine the following use case: User has a vocal track and wants to add an echo/reverb effect to a certain word/phrase (as is common e.g. with electronic music). However, the user can't just select the word he wants to add reverb, too, because then the reverb effect will stop at the end of the phrase. To do this properly, I found a way which involves no less than 11 (!!) steps in Audacity 1.3.2 (in Audacity 1.2.5 this only needs 8 steps, but still too many): 1. Select word in first track 2. Edit/Copy into new track. A new track is created, both tracks are then selected. 3. Click on track head of new track with shift down => only first track is selected 4. Edit/Silence 5. In the second track, click anywhere to the right of the new clip. 6. Create/Silence/OK. 7. Use Time Shift Tool to move "silence" clip to the left until it hugs the other clip. 8. Click on black line to join both clips. 9. Choose Selection Tool again and double-click on new clip (now with silence) 10. Do Effect/Echo (or Reverb, or whatever) 11. Select All, then "Mix and Render". Any (implementable) ideas to make this more user-friendly?
