It turns out that although wxMac doesn't seem to have this set, the proper encoding when using Unix functions on the Mac is UTF-8. When I call "mkdir" and pass it a UTF-8 string containing an umlaut, it succeeds and the folder looks correct in the Finder (though surprisingly, not in the Terminal - "ls" fails to parse the UTF-8 correctly). Unfortunately the string that comes back from a wxFileDialog is MacRoman - the default Mac encoding. Matt, any ideas? - Dominic |
