Try with some multichannel card like (Creative SB > Live (4 channels) or Audigy/Live 5.1 or even Audigy 2). I hate to sound like a prick, but sure I can just go out and buy a $150 sound card to test this idea. :) (Ok, sometimes I love sounding like a prick, but not this time) Anyway, to demonstrate: http://david.fancella.home.attbi.com/Music/complete2.mp3 It has 3 guitar tracks and a drum track. One guitar for rhythm uses stereo chorus. A clean lead, and a distorted lead. The drum line is something I constructed using a free as in beer drum machine intended for techno musicians, but happened to have a beat in there I liked. :) The application was a free as in beer Windows app (who gives a shit if the source wasn't open, it was written in delphi). So it used DirectSound for the sound interface. Same hardware that I'm currently running Audacity on with GNU/Linux. Um, also, don't expect professional-quality music in that file, it's a scratchpad snapshot of a song I haven't finished writing (after a hard drive failure I lost interest, and this is the only remnant of the song besides what's in my head). The purpose of the file is to attempt to demonstrate that the hardware is capable of doing the multitrack recording one track at a time.
