Compiled straight into the kernel.

No dmix or arts. I was trying with jack and was having funny problems as
well, but don't have the error messages handy.
I think that the new portaudio snapshot did the trick for me... I would
highly suggest any 2.6.x users who are having problems do the daily snapshot
of v19 to your lib-src/portaudio-v19 directory method of compiling.
