What is the preferred way to splice in audio using Audacity?
I have tried two different techniques - both with unsatisfactory results.
1) Cross-fade. Cross fading over to the splice audio works pretty well,
but when cross-fading back I hear the interference between the two
tracks as a slight modulation of the audio level. This is most apparent
in relatively long (1/2 second or so) fades on the ends of my splice.
For shorter fades on the splice ends, I get a pop.
2) Use the "Find Zero Crossings Z" facility to make the splice run from
zero-crossing to zero-crossing. Then use the same facility to select
the main audio piece to be replaced by the splice. Paste the splice in
so that its zero crossings are matched exactly to the main audio zero
crossings. To my way of thinking this should work well, but I always
get a pop on each end of the splice.
What splicing techniques have other users found to be successful?
