As another developer noted, Audacity is free software licensed under the
GNU General Public License:
This license gives explicit, written permission for the software to be
used and copied. It also explicitly states that the program and its
output may be used without restriction (only copying, modification, and
distribution of the program are restricted).
These terms allow you to reproduce screenshots of Audacity in use.
Because Audacity was written by a large team of volunteers, there is no
single copyright holder who can grant special permissions. Providing
signed letters from every contributor is not practical for us; you will
need to take the GNU GPL as your authorization.
