| Subject: [Audacity-help] drum machine software
| Is there a free 'drum machine' program that i can download to use in
| conjunction to the audacity software so i can add drum tracks when i'm
| writing a song?
I don't personally know of any free complete drum machine
software that runs as a plugin in Audacity.
There are a couple of Nyquist Plugins here that can be added
that create a specific drum sound. KLSTRBAS can generate a synthkick
drum sound and Risset Drum can produce sounds similar to Risset's
To use these in Audacity, unzip the .ny files and place them in the
Plug-Ins folder inside the Audacity installation folder. On Windows
computers, this is usually under "Program Files." On Mac OS X, it is
usually under "Applications." The plugins will be available after restarting
Here are three free (or free trial) standalone drum machines you can
Leafdrums (Windows fully functioning trial)
Hydrogen (installers for Windows, OS X and Linux, or compile
from source code)
Alternatively you should also be able to find specialised archives of
downloadable drum samples on the internet (not necessarily free),
or some free archives that include them e.g.
There are also free online drum machines where you can create
Outbound message virus free.
