Audacity is free, open source software (no charge) developed and supported by volunteers. The terms of the GNU General Public License (GPL) allow it to be sold under certain conditions. You can always download Audacity for free from our web site:
Audacity has been "bundled" by several hardware and software vendors. Some provide additional support or features along with the software, while others do not.
We are aware of people selling Audacity under various names on eBay. This is generally allowed by Audacity's license. However, we believe that changing the name is deceptive and prevents customers from making informed purchases. If you are dissatisfied because you did not know you were buying free software, you should ask the vendor for a refund or file a complaint.
