Have you tried the Mandrake RPM's?
I had a problem where files would be played too fast with these

I also noticed that. Personally I use the rpms from:

I'd expect that, since they are basically the same. You have to
upgrade the RPM's or uninstall the old ones first.

No, I compiled Audacity on Mandrake 8.2 with Ogg support once I
remembered to install the relevant -devel packages.

My noatun is still working OK. xmms is playing up, but with non-ogg
files too, so I doubt it's anything to do with this.
