Hi there I know little about Macs but we do have a Mac network at work (apparently one of the largest in the UK, if not Europe). The technician emailed me asking me to check the installation of Audacity on the network. It seemed to work OK but the 'Help' menu only had 'Screenshot Tools...' and 'Run Benchmark...'; is that normal? I was looking for the version info but failed to find it. It looks like a recent build but how should I advise? Martyn |

Thanks guys! He had installed 1.3.3-beta. Doh! I find that I didn't get a response to this post because I only sent it to myself! I have tried making sure that the temp folder is on the local drive (somebody helped me) but Audacity still fails it's own benchmark. Any ideas Mac people? Thanks in advance Martyn ================ Hi there I know this is a bit off topic but... On our works Mac network I tried Audacity again and the 'Run Benchmark...' option (twice, with different options) gave me: Using 66576 blocks of 252 samples each, for a total of 32.0 MB. Preparing... Performing 100 edits... Trial 0 Expected len 16777152, track len 7488936. TEST FAILED!!! Using 66576 blocks of 252 samples each, for a total of 32.0 MB. Preparing... Performing 100 edits... Cut: 9772812 - 13404636 Paste: 7488936 Trial 0 Expected len 16777152, track len 7488936. TEST FAILED!!! whilst other (short) trials of recording / playing / applying effects seemed to work OK. Should I be worried about this? We're talking 1.3.3-beta here. The temp folder looks to be on a network drive to me, although the technician appears to be telling me that it's on a local one. Would that make a difference? I can go to a Mac and login to the network anytime and do any tests that may be useful to diagnose this, but maybe only daily report on them. And have no idea how to get from CVS to an install on a Mac so I don't know if this is a current (CVS) problem. Martyn, I've tried this here, but I must point out that this was simply across my home network. i.e., no security between the machines. It worked just fine. What kind of network are you dealing with, Noevell, Windows, Mac, ...? Is the Audacity.app bundle on the network drive? What are the permissions on the parent directory and the .app bundle itself. Go to a shell prompt and check the permissions of the files within the .app bundle (it's actually just a plain old directory, so just "cd" into it). Hiya Leland Half an answer here, but it looks half useful, do I have permissions issues so far? More of the answer: All the files in Audacity.app have -rwx------. The network is basically Novell but they are using AFP and mounting things as if they were Mac. Permissions are set as Novell. Or so I'm told. Any use? Hmmm. That all looks good since you=B9re the owner. Where do you have the temp files going? (Preferences is on the Audacity menu.) Hi there Temp files are going to /Media/.audacity_temp/ I tried Dominic's new dmg and it checks itsself OK, so maybe some relevant change has been made since the last beta? Do you think I should recommend that one for our network? Martyn On 25/01/2008, Leland <le...@au...> wrote: > > Hmmm. That all looks good since you're the owner. Since they were already running a beta, then it seems they're not scaredy cats, so I'd go with Dominic's. It would be a good test for us anyway. :-) Personally, I'd run it, but I know how to fix it if there's a problem. :-) Of course, they have you and you have contacts, so it should be safe. :-) Leland |

Thanks Leland, I shall be recommending that latest one then.
