I would export ,save your project to anything you are comfortable with and store some where else , close audacity and restart it and open up any mp3 or wav file and see if things all work.
if your file is causing the problem you can download goldwave and try it there.

Audacity is now crashing about once every 2 hours, so I know I should report a bug.  Could somebody tell me which of the following are the most important?

- reinstall audacity
- try to reproduce the problem on another computer
- collect Audacity log contents after a crash (when "recovering" a file)
