Hello,

It is not normalization that you need to perform on your files. It's instead compression. Compression will strengthen the weaker parts and reduce the loudable. There are special programs for this. In don't know if Audacity got plug-ins for compression.

Normalisation is to increase the amplitude to a max, or near max level thus making both left and right channels equal in strength.

Compression is widely used for popmusic.  It's needed for music played in poor radios such as in the car or the littel one in yiour kitchen. You may then play this music without have to turn the volume knob for weaker parts and lower it for stronger parts.

Hi
yes
but normalized could sound very boring for audience
if there were not to many of these low parts select them and amplify them.

Subject: [Audacity-users] Uneven Amplitude

Dear all,
I have MP3 files which are lectures recorded live
with audience.
I had to amplify the file because it was nearly inaudible.
That cause only a few clipped peaks. However, there
are still segments where that speaker's voice is still
too low, and thus playing the file to an audience would
not be received very well.

Is there anything I can do to amplify the low amplitude
segments and reduce the amplitude that would clip if
I amplify the whole file?
I guess I am loogin for a way to produce approximately
an even amplitude (is this called normalized???).

Thanx,

JD
