Joel,  this is very unlikely to suit our many users who transcribe LPs
and tapes. 
 
The normal method for doing this is to record the whole LP/tape
and then use labels to define the track starts - so for multi-artist
compilation albums your "dual implementation" will not be satisfactory.

This way, when the user exports multiple labels, the Metadata editor appears only once and the user can modify the generic Title and the first Track Number. He can even modify the track number positionning: in front or after the Title.
But when he exports multiple tracks, the Metadata pops at every track.

I think this dual implementation should satisfy most users.
