    Hi,

I've noticed that aTunes 2.1.0 virtual memory size is 745,012K on my Windows
XP system. This seems a bit excessive given all i'm listening to at the moment
is internet radio. my laptop only has 2gb so this is eating up about half of
my memory and lord knows that memory leaks in firefox is eating up the other
    have and more.

if you need more info, let me know.
    m.

    Hi,

    some questions:

    • what is the size of your repository?
    • Are you using only internet radio?
    • Do you have context panel (panel at right) visible?
    • What is the memory consumption just after you start application?

Hi, and hopefully i can give you some useful answers:

    • what is the size of your repository?
the size of the repository.xml file is 1,360KB

    • Are you using only internet radio?
at the time i posted this i was only playing the radio although i'm sure it
      had loaded the full repository.
I have 835 songs in the repository now.

    • Do you have context panel (panel at right) visible?
yes, i don't see a way to close or disable that panel.

    • What is the memory consumption just after you start application?
it is 720M after starting and not doing anything.

i noticed that you start atunes using Xmx512m, is there some way i can adjust
that down? i don't see a config file on XP to change that.

    thanks.

    Hi,

there is no config file to change that setting. However I changed that setting
to 256m. It will be available in the next nightly build tonight.

Anyway 720MB is a huge memory amount and should be fixed, but I don't know
what is causing that problem in your system.

Hide context panel in "View" menu, as that panel has some memory issues and
let's see if it helps. Also try nightly build with 256MB.

    Hi,

Thanks for the suggestion, i've closed the "context panel" and restarted, no
    change in mem size.
If i understand right your calling the beta builds the "nightly"? i downloaded
it this morning and i still see where it it starts atune with the Xmx512m
    switch.

I can try to get you a heap dump if that will help.

i had to downgrade because that version will not play radio. But i'm always
    willing to test new builds.

just installed the latest build and this one is using the 256. The size after
startup is now just 452M, much better than the 700mb. This still seems high
but i can deal with it better.

One more thing you can do: open "Help" menu -> "About". It will open a window
with two tabs. Select "Properties" tab and make a screenshot of that window,
so we can see your virtual machine parameters.

    Hi,

with a similar statistics in my Windows XP machine I get attunes process using
80-90MB of memory. What program do you use to measure memory?

Anyway, I introduced a change so now memory parameters for Initial Heap Space
and Max Heap Space will be a % of free memory in your computer (5% for
    initial, 10% for max)

That change will be available in the next beta version tonight. Let me know
again that statistics with that new version.

    hi,
i use process explorer. I'm not really a windows person, linux is my platform
of choice but have to use windows at home because somethings still won't run
under linux yet. So there probably are better ways to tell memory usage.

Wow that brought the memory usage way down. and so far no out of memory
    errors... looks great

Can you please write here the memory statistics and memory usage with process
explorer with this new beta version?
