I am writing a game engine mostly for fun, but I want to support fbx since it is very widely used and supports binary formats.
I am on the fence whether to go ahead and try to write my own importer from the fbx sdk or to wait for the next version of assimp which from what I read will support fbx. I already wrote an assimp importer.
In order to make this decision I need to know how soon until there will be support in the official release of assimp, and if there is a way to get it now if we compile the source code from the repo?
We are planing to release a new version in the next weeks.
With best regards,
Awesome! Thanks for the hard work. :D
It has been more than a year since this message was posted. I don't see any mention of FBX support on the website yet. Has it been released?
lists FBX as a supported import format, and the source tree has several FBX related files. I'd suspect that the website is simply not quite up-to-date.
