The OpenSolaris kernel is the most advanced kernel and offers good Java support, one would only have to write a new AWT implementation. The Solaris userland could be replaced with AROS, making a modified dos.library and exec.library part of the kernel and the primary application interface. DragonFly BSD is also very suitable for the purpose because it already uses a messaging API as the kernel interface. Other alternatives are QNX, Minix and Android, each with its own advantages.

A full Unix operating system could be added as a guest operating system (in the sense of http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Xen\).

A commercial distribution could license support for DirectX from http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/TransGaming_Technologies, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/CodeWeavers or Microsoft (see http://www.nytimes.com/2007/10/22/technology/22cnd-soft.html?em&ex=1193284800&en=0317ae1b61bfb1da&ei=5087%0A\).
