    Hi,

What browser and operating system do you have?
    Is Java installed?

    http://www.java.com/en/download/testjava.jsp

    If Java isn't installed: http://java.com/en/download/index.jsp

If it is, then that's not likely the problem.
Perhaps you have a browser which is not launching the starter from the Play Now button correctly. I see this sometimes in Chrome. If you click Play Now but only get a download and nothing happens, try double clicking on the downloaded file.

Any info you can give us on your setup will help

  • I'm using Google Chrome. I do have Java installed.

Which downloaded file do I click on? I'm using windows7 btw, on a laptop.

    Thanks for helping me out.

Once you have unzipped the file stendhal-1.01.zip into a folder, you have to double-click the file:

    stendhal-starter.jar

Thinking again, perhaps the downloaded file we are talking about is the failing Java Web Start file, which is named stendhal-starter.jnlp and is downloaded to your chrome downloads folder (downloads by default)
You would have to double-click that file, but perhaps the .jnlp file type association to javaws.exe is lost and the file type can't be recognized.
In that case, you will get a window with the message "windows can't open this file".
You can then "choose the program from a list" and choose "Java Web Start Launcher"

    Greetings,
    Osl

  • Thinking again, when you hit play on the website, you have to:

    - login or create a new account in that page and create a character

    - click on the image of that character

Only then is the Java Web Start file downloaded to your computer.

    Greetings,

    Osl
