This is a bug because now you can't place an item under your feet in the bank and be safe anymore.

I remember in one of the recent releases, a change so that players could pick items up from under a creature's feet. That's fair enough and makes sense. At that time I don't believe players were affected. However more recently this bug has come in. Some thefts have happened.

In .60, you could remove stuff from under monsters but not creatures. It annoyed me because sometimes players would step onto a corpse I wanted to loot. When it worked in .61, I thought it was a feature. But, the bank argument makes sense. I guess it should be changed back, if there have been thefts.

I think the under creature fix was done on the client side.. which means tweaking the client only won't be enough, since a hacked client could still request the action. So it really needs to be enforced on the server side.

I guess it would be useful to only allow the player on top to access the items they're standing on. So if they wanted to swap some stuff around their own slots while others are around. If someone else tries to take something, it could respond with a message like "That item seems to belong to another player".

It is possible to make it so people can pick up things from under NPCs and themselves, but not other players? If not, blocking this is probably not worth the problems it causes. There are other, mostly safe ways to give items to people (like standing at the opening to their bank vault and then putting it down the corridor, so noone else can reach it), and people shouldn't be relying on dropping them around untrusted people anyway.

For do this we need to hack server-side, adding more "ifs" when aplayer picks an item.. bad choice..

I'm with miguel, the best option is wait for safe trade.

Trading does not solve everything, or even most problems. Currently the only way to split stacks is dropping. It's also the only way to rearrange your items when both the bank chest and the players item slots are full.

Can we make it so if you drag an item onto an occupied item slot, the items switch places? That's how a lot of inventory management systems work in other games. It doesn't help with trading, but it solves the rearranging problem.

alexbobp it does not solve the rearranging problem. What if you want to split stacks.

Often I want to take only one scroll out of the chest, I use ctrl and drag it to the ground so I only have one. but now someone can take that. I'd make back corridors wider and implement OnePlayerAreas there, except they're messy client side.

    For fix this we need:
    1.- bags (containers)
2.- A "how many items want to move?" dialog when you drag stacks

How about if the "how many items" dialog is hotkey-based? If drag drags all and ctrl-drag drags one, we could make alt-drag prompt.
Kymara, can't you ctrl-drag from the chest to your bag?

Sorry, i fixed this issue before discovering this report (Someone mentioned it on IRC).

I think this is a bug because it is an undocumented change of behaviour which is not easily guessable. And it has already caused some trouble simply because people did not realize the change and got their items stolen.

    Hendrik

PS: Any other ideas should be put into its own feature requests tacker items (unless such an item already exists). --> closing
