Been using Ares for 3 - 4 years.
Old version stopped working, so I instaled 2.09
Just like everyone else on this forum, MY ARES PROGRAM WILL NOT CONNECT. Uninstalled, reinstalled several times.

WHAT'S GOING ON, ARES?

ohh man you have to open a port on your adsl modem for ares udp and tcp both Im using ares now and if you hav kaspersky internet security you have to close before you open ares.first open a port for ares and enter control panel and click network then write the port number to "accept in comming connection on this port" place the click disconnect and close kaspersky and click connect button in 5 sec I hope it will work peace to everyone

i have ares already downloaded as a free music site but can not get it to connect or search.then i go to sourceforge.org and they want a credit card,i thought it was free(that word FREE usually means that no credit cards or billing.)

Jeesus, learn something about networking first. Ares needs to open the port, find peers and connect to them, this make take some time. Forward the incoming port and just wait or restart a couple times. Freaking noobs.

I had the same problem, a friend sent me a page with instructions that I can't find right now but what I did was install Ares in a folder other than "Program Files" and it's been working fine. Hope it works for you too
