Second.aprs.net is not doing this, only third.aprs.net does. The reason
is a bit complex, but since the central servers use port 23 (so that some
people can get through firewalls that don't allow use of the standard
ports) aprsd needs to run as root. While no system compromise has ever
been found in aprsd, the sysop of third does not wish to take the risk.
Therefore he uses a relay application to accept the connects on 23 and
relay them to the equivalent port on his server. Your connect to aprsd
appears to aprsd to come from the local machine, 127.0.0.1 is the IP for
