I am making a sci-fi game in Unity which requires lots on planets and moons. I would like to be able to create a procedural texture in AOI and somehow convert it to a spherical map. I started by mapping the texture to the environment in AOI. I animated the camera to look at each direction (north, south, east, west, up, down). By setting the camera's FOV to 90, I was able to capture every pixel of the procedural texture in 6 images. I constructed a vertical cross like so:
I used HDRshop to turn this into a spherical map. The result was great, but it took way too many steps to get there.
Is it feasible to do this all within AOI?
There's a script for exactly this purpose. It's called "Convert 3D Texture to 2D". You can install it with the Scripts and Plugins manager.
