#459 Left click opens menu but can not select item

Summary says it all. Basically the menu opens, but when I pull down (holding left button pressed) none of the menu items
are highlighted. If I release the button over a menu item the menu disappears and nothing happens (i.e. the item is not

If I click, but do not hold, the left button over menu title the menu flickers but does not stay open.

The expected behaviour is (1) it should be possible to use left click and hold to open the menu
and select item, or (2) first left click should open the menu and second left click should select
from it. I mildly prefer (1), but (2) is acceptable. The current behaviour is PITA, although it
is possible to work around it using right click, see below.

If I right click and pull open the menu, the items do not highlight, but if I let go of right button, the
menu stays open with the item highlighted. If I then left click on the highlighted item, the item
gets selected. In fact, if I managed to get the menu stay open with right button, I can then
select with left button any item.

  • This sounds like a issue with Java/AWT/UI manager.

Firstly, could you please try running AOI with the SUN Java, instead of the OpenJDK/IcedTea?

I have certainly found that earlier versions of OpenJDK/IcedTea were incapable of running AOI correctly.
I have not tried with the version you have.
