Hello, I'd like to use vblade with the Coraid HBA for VMWare ESXi. Coraid informed me, that "the HBA accepts arbitrary AoE targets but will ONLY work with an AoE Target supporting AoE release 11(lock/release)." Questions: 1) Is the lock/release feature of the AoE-protocol implemented in the current vblade target code? 2) Has anybody yet tried a vblade HBA/ESXi target/initiator pairing? 3) is it possible to get the neccessary protocol support in the near future? best Regards, Gernot |

This is true. > Questions: > 1) Is the lock/release feature of the AoE-protocol implemented in the > current vblade target code? It's on our todo list, but until there was demand for it we were getting other things done. I can say that it will not be a supported configuration by CORAID for various defensive reasons. If you go down this path you'll be the first to find any quirks, and more or less left to resolve them on your own. Sam |

I'd be willing to invest into an HBA and assist with testing in any way I can. IMHO the entire vblade server is unsupported anyway so that won't hurt either and a vblade+ESXi combination would not in any way affect Coraid sales of the enterprise grade appliances (user space performace, redundancy ,...) Besides, it would be a good signal to have an open source reference target implementation that supports the *full* AoE protocol specs to advocate AoE. Best Regards, Gernot |
