When I am running the chmodgui example under the tkgui
backend, the checkboxes does not display the current
state of the gui.

The checkboxes are selected when they should be, but
the checkmark isn't shown on startup of the
application. How do I know this? Because when I click
a checkbox that should have a check mark in it,
nothing happens the first time (ie, the checkbox was
really checked but didn't show it's state and now I
have deselected it). After clicking a second time the
checkmark appears as expected, and the gui is now in a
sound state.
