I was looking for a light-weight client that does not have the bloat that Thunderbird has. Sylpheed was a good alternative, but it had too many dependencies. Moreover, I am on a FreeBSD box and running Thunderbird in Linux emulation, which is really not ideal. Compiling Thunderbird would take many hours at least. The feature I like in Thunderbird is the client-side IMAP spam filtering. I was using Mutt previously, but it became annoying without a client-side filter. There is "IMAP spam be gone" by Roger Binns which can work with Mutt, but the problem with his script is that it uses a mix of Python and SpamAssassin, and I really don't have Python and SpamAssassin installed everywhere (same reason why I don't use a Java-based client :) ). Althea compiled on FreeBSD with minor changes and ran as well, but it does need further work. It has a good code base that can be built upon. I'll be submitting a patch against 0.5.7 later today. What do you think? Is it possible to develop it further? Some features that might be nice: * AddressBook: There is some code, but can't seem to find any instance of that class being made. Maybe I did not dig enough :D * Port over to GTK2. * Spam filtering: using Bayesian methods w/o any dependencies, meaning a self-contained one. * RSS syndication (not essential, but nice) * Searching * Somehow the pixmaps don't get included. Could just be my problem. Thought, flames, "shut-ups" are welcome :D -- Roopinder Singh rs...@mi... ISE4 Imperial College London MSN : hu...@ho...
