This occurs with any ams patch containing the following signal chane:

ENV module (any output) --> Lin. VCA (any Gain input) --> PCM Out.
(example patch attached)

Then, if ams' output port is connected to any Jack port, all Jack audio directing to this port is silent.
This 'muting'-behavior is inherited to ports down the Jack connection graph.

Disconnecting the chane again anywhere within ams or Jack brings the sound back.
Sending any MIDI note event to ams cures the behavior for the time ams is running (only with an MCV gate connected to the ENV),

ams 2.0.0
jackd 0.116.2
archlinux

to repoduce, e.g.
* start mplayer
* start ams
load relevant patch, e.g. bass.ams from example patches
* connect outputs of ams to the system playback ports mplayer uses
- silence
* disconnect ams or send MIDI note to ams
- sound is back

    tried mute_test.ams: works fine too, no mute bug.
    i'm running fedora 12 x86_64 with planet-ccrma's jackdmp.

    Can you try loading mute_test.ams from the command line?
    I just did some re-testing and command line loading turns out to be a precondition for the bug to occur.

    just did: works too.
    i can't find a mplayer jack plugin on fedora 12.
    please check if the bug appears if you use vlc instead of mplayer.

    I don't have VLC with a working Jack plugin, the problem seems not to relate to this, I get it with any sound source appearing in jack, whether aqualung, zynadd, ardour, ...

    how do you invoke jackd?
