Clemens, Wow just woke up and tried again, sorry really tired last night so forgot to unmute even after reading the warning. Just checked out an ogg sample and it works!, will test more tonight. Actually before, I was thinking that maybe I should wait to try and get things working in a future release, but then I realised that if I don't help with the testing then some other sad user won't have any sound if they try to install Linux on their new Shuttle XPC SD31P too. Anyway I guess that the code that you gave me can go into the next release of Alsa now. This really is cool, I've been an MCSE/Windows guy for many years, but recently decided to make the switch over to Linux on a permanent basis, so that I could try to help the Linux community with bug testing/support etc, and it is really cool to be part of this. I know I could never get this level of support (for free) in the Micro$oft world. Thanks again for all your help.
