I'm having no luck getting sound working correctly on my desktop ever since I upgraded the motherboard to an AMD64 system (Asus K8V SE Deluxe). I'm running 32-bit application code on it, and this happens both with 32-bit and 64-bit kernels, but only with some applications. The sound is choppy and irregular (speeds up and slows down unpredictably, volume fluctuates). The motherboard has audio provided by the Via southbridge chip. I've tried disabling this and installing a PCI Trident 4D Wave NX, but it shows the same behavior. These problems occur with both analog and digital outputs. Some applications which appear to work correctly include xmms, mplayer, and tuxkart. Almost everything else I've tried is having problems. (circuslinux, bumprace, Fish Fillets NG, many many more) Any suggestions for how to fix this? I'm running Debian sid for i386, with Alsa 1.0.6. Eric P.S. Sorry for the repost. Going through the moderator seems to have sent my first attempt at this message into /dev/null. |
