Happy to report that Allura works on the RaspberryPi. A bit slow but it does work.

Hi, is there a reason allura is not in apache projects listings? (http://projects.apache.org/indexes/alpha.html for example)

  • 12:14:37
    Humbedooh

it hasn't made a DOAP file

  • 13:03:56
    thenetimp

so I have Allura running. I have to admit I am finding the UI very unintuative.

Hello thenetimp, the devs aren't in yet, so you may want to wait before you continue your comments. If you'd rather just leave your comments right now, I'll make sure they see the chat logs when they get in.

  • 13:07:03
    thenetimp

ah, what time do they usually come in? it's 10pm for me here

  • 13:08:20
    ctsai-sf

They're on Eastern US time (as am I, but I just get up earlier). They typically get in around 10am (another hour or so).

  • 13:08:26
    ctsai-sf

Of course, the other option is the mailing list.

  • 13:09:11
    thenetimp

ok so 9am for them now

  • 13:09:18
    thenetimp

so in another hour or so.

  • 13:09:20
    ctsai-sf

    Yeah.

I am just glad you guys changed the clocks the 14hr time difference was killing me

  • 13:11:39
    ctsai-sf

Ha! Do you not observe Daylight Savings Time where you are?

  • 13:13:41
    thenetimp

    nope

Japan is DSL free, same time all the time

  • 13:14:16

    ctsai-sf

    I'm jealous.

    ctsai-sf

I'm 100% with you that DST is stupid and should be done away with.

  • 13:15:37
    thenetimp

Maybe if I return I'll start a 503c lobby group that deals with eliminating DSL

  • 13:36:48
    hendrik

Russia managed to get abolish DST.

After the Fukushima incident the Japanese were thinking about instituting it. I would have left the country. That was 30% of the reason I wanted to live here.

thenetimp: more folks are around now if you want to raise your feedback now.

  • 15:25:31
    thenetimp

ok so generally my comments are like this 1) being able to install it on the RaspberryPi at a usable speed was pretty awesome. I've tried at least a dozen other Github replacement software offerings and they either lacked a lot of features, or their dependancies did not have builds on the raspberryPi

  • 15:29:36
    brondsem

    nice :)

  • 15:29:55
    thenetimp

    2) I do find the UI to be hard to understand. I rarely read manuals, I like software that I can figure out the basics just trying to use it. Things like deleting the default users and their projects doesn't seem very obvious. Also a lot of buttons that Ihave no idea what they do and their labels don't make it obvious like on the left of the main window buttons "clustering, bbs, streaming" etc.... I click on them and th

  • 15:29:55
    thenetimp

e main content window is empty.

  • 15:30:57
    thenetimp

so making things a little more obvious on the UI would be nice.

  • 15:32:19
    brondsem

    yeah, can't argue with that

  • 15:32:22
    thenetimp

i've only had a little time to play around with it and I am not sure how old the project is (I just heard of it yesterday), I'll give it a longer look at this weekend maybe I missed something

  • 15:32:34
    brondsem

the default homepage isn't very useful at all

  • 15:33:46
    Humbedooh

brondsem: congrats on the vice presidency btw!

  • 15:33:49
    brondsem

the project has been around for a while; a lot of the development has gone into the tools and features within it. not enough time spent on making it intuitive to get started

  • 15:33:56
    Humbedooh

or should I call you Dave Biden now? snicker

  • 15:34:08
    brondsem

    ha

  • 15:36:01
    thenetimp

It seems like a lot is there, it just feels like it needs to be tied together better. At least it installs without a lot of work (like some of the others I've seen), so I'll try to spend some time with it this weekend (suppose to rain all weekend). And see if I can figure it out more.

  • 15:36:20
    thenetimp

    (unlike someothers I've seen)...

  • 15:36:29
    thenetimp

sorry Xanax kicking in brain tired

  • 15:37:44
    brondsem

cool. feel free to ask us any questions if you run into something that doesn't make sense

  • 15:38:12
    thenetimp

cool will do. have a good one, my face had a date with my pillow so ciao

  • 15:38:17
    brondsem

this channel might be quiet during the weekend, mailing list might bebetter

  • 15:38:19
    brondsem

    :)

  • 15:38:29
    thenetimp

    okie dokie

  • 15:38:55
    ctsai-sf

Doubly so due to TZ differences.

  • 16:21:18
    cds

is there any clear documentation for importing trac -> allura?

  • 16:28:07
    brondsem

cds: sourceforge has some at https://sourceforge.net/p/forge/documentation/Trac%20Importer/ but it basically applies to any Allura instance (since SourceForge runs on allura)

  • 16:34:09
    cds

brondsem: sorry for the dumb question, but how do i delete a project? can't find it anywhere

  • 16:35:22
    cds

or even a neighborhood for that matter

  • 16:35:46
    cory_fu

Actually, I don't think there's a UI yet for deleting a project (or neighborhood). You'd have to do it manually via mongo or paster shell

  • 16:36:31
    brondsem

iirc you can flag a project as deleted on the admin metadata page. but its a "soft delete"

  • 16:39:00
    brondsem

https://sourceforge.net/p/allura/tickets/5943/ has some mongo commands for deleting default users, neighborhoods and projects

  • 16:39:37
    brondsem

run "mongo allura" and then you'll be in a mongo shell and can run the mongo commands (they all start with db.)

  • 16:44:31
    cds

awesome, last question. couldn't find where to create/administer neighborhoods

  • 16:46:54
    brondsem
  • 16:47:10
    brondsem

once the neighborhood is created, just go to /nbhd/admin to manage it
