Hi,
I am using an (extremely useful) wiki page in order to set up a Mediawiki in my project.
http://winhp.sourceforge.net/wiki/index.php/Running_MediaWiki_on_Sourceforge.net

I am trying to create a symlink in my project in order to be able to upload images in the mediawiki that i just installed. The command that I run is the following:
symlink /home/groups/i/in/instrumentelem/persistent/wikiimages /home/groups/i/in/instrumentelem/htdocs/wiki/images

both the directory exists and have 777 permission.
Unfortunately i got the following message:
symlink /home/groups/i/in/instrumentelem/persistent/wikiimages /home/groups/i/in/instrumentelem/htdocs/wiki/images
Couldn't symlink file "/home/groups/i/in/instrumentelem/persistent/wikiimages" to "/home/groups/i/in/instrumentelem/htdocs/wiki/images": Failure

do you have any advice?

Thx in advance,
Francesco

you can have a look to my wiki at the following link: http://instrumentelem.sourceforge.net/wiki
if someone try to upload a file this message from Mediawiki is displayed: Internal error: The upload directory (public) is not writable by the webserver.

    Greetings!

The quickest and most painless way to set up a MediaWiki is to use the Hosted Apps version that SF.net provides. It is preconfigured and ready to go. All you need to do is enable it under Admin>Hosted Apps in your project's page.

Let me know if you need anything else by dropping a comment into this request.

    Thanks,

    Thx Travis
for the quick reply! I am already using the wiki that you host. However I would like to a dedicated wiki in order to do a few more customization.

Also the symlink problem appear to be independent by the wiki issues itself...

    symlink /home/groups/i/in/instrumentelem/persistent/wikiimages /home/groups/i/in/instrumentelem/htdocs/wiki/images
    Couldn't symlink file "/home/groups/i/in/instrumentelem/persistent/wikiimages" to "/home/groups/i/in/instrumentelem/htdocs/wiki/images": Failure

Do you have any idea on why I can not create this link?

    Once again, thx in advance
    Francesco

  • Hi Francesco,

I'm guesing you are using ln -s to make the sym link. Use ln instead. I know this as a "hard" link. However, in our system, that does create a symbolic link.

Give that a try and let me know if that solve this for you.

If you need anything else, please post a response to this request.

    Cheers!,

  • This Tracker item was closed automatically by the system. It was
previously set to a Pending status, and the original submitter
did not respond within 14 days (the time period specified by
    the administrator of this Tracker).
