Maybe there is a small bug by updating the roster list after add a contact. I will check it with another sample. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- You can respond by visiting: http://sourceforge.net/tracker/?func=detail&atid=463900&aid=553459&group_id=51273 |

I'm unsure how it happens, but some contacts get into the roster multiple times, but the roster only displays one of them, probably the last one. This is an extract from my roster, showing two contacts in this kind of state: <item jid='par...@nu...' name='Jeff Gilpin' subscription='to'/> <item jid='par...@nu.../Jabberwocky' subscription='from' ask='subscribe'/> <item jid='de...@ja...' subscription='both'/> <item jid='de...@ja.../Jabberwocky' subscription='from' ask='subscribe'/> This also relates to feature request 550893. Have to find out what the correct handling of a resource id is. It would seem that having a seperate entry in the roster window for these different contacts is the first step, it at least identifies that there is a problem. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- >Comment By: Tom Parker (carrott) Date: 2002-05-08 23:20 Message: Logged In: YES user_id=514907 This is caused by selecting "accept subscription" on a contact with whome you already have a full subscription. Send <presence type='subscribed' to='ca...@ca.../Jabberwocky'/> Recv <iq type='set'><query xmlns='jabber:iq:roster'> <item jid='ca...@ca.../Jabberwocky' subscription='from'/> </query></iq> There may be other ways to cause this problem... ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Comment By: Tom Parker (carrott) Date: 2002-05-06 23:11 Message: Logged In: YES user_id=514907 The resource field is handled correctly by the add, subscribe, remove and accept subscription methods. Somehow the roster can get into a state where there are multiple entries, with different resources. I think this shouldn't happen, but I can't work out how it does. The presence packets are allowed to have multiple resource identifiers and are handled correctly, but the roster packets are not. Will consult the JDev mailing list. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Comment By: Tom Parker (carrott) Date: 2002-05-06 21:31 Message: Logged In: YES user_id=514907 The jabber programmers guide (http://docs.jabber.org/jpg/html/main.html) has the following to say Resources are specific to a Node. All characters are allowed and there are no restrictions. It is case sensitive. Resource addresses are similar to the path part of a URL. Resources are used to address specific connections (since a Jabber server allows a user to be connected from multiple resources simultaneously), devices, or inboxes. An example Resource address: node@host/resource. Resource addresses are intended to be hidden from a user and only used at the software/protocol level. This would suggest that the display of a resource in the roster is incorrect, how does the user tell apart multiple instances of the same contact with different resource addresses? Have to examine other client's behaviour ---------------------------------------------------------------------- You can respond by visiting: http://sourceforge.net/tracker/?func=detail&atid=463900&aid=552473&group_id=51273 |

None of the other clients I have communicated with use one. I realize that the Jabber specifications list a resource field but I am not sure that it is necessary. I think that the resource field may be preventing me from connecting to some commercial servers and would like to be able to change or eliminate the resource specification in my address. In addition, the current resource is causing problems registering some transports and removing some contacts and transports. If someone sends me a message from Jabberwocky their address contains the resource "/Jabberwocky". When I try to remove that contact, the Remove Contact menu doesn't include the resource field in the remove request and the removal fails. If I enter an XML removal script manually in the console and include the resource field at the end of the address it is then successfully removed. A similar problem occurs when trying to remove transports. The Remove Menu does not include the resource field "/registered" when it executes. Entering an XML removal script manually with the resource field included succeeds. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- You can respond by visiting: http://sourceforge.net/tracker/?func=detail&atid=463903&aid=550893&group_id=51273 |

Bugs item #549749, was opened at 2002-04-28 22:00 You can respond by visiting: http://sourceforge.net/tracker/?func=detail&atid=463900&aid=549749&group_id=51273 Category: None Group: None Status: Open Resolution: None Priority: 5 Submitted By: Tom Parker (carrott) Assigned to: Tom Parker (carrott) Summary: Pending contacts in roster Initial Comment: If a user is in your roster, but the subscription type is none, you are waiting either for them to accept your subscription or for you to accept theirs. You get this in the roster list: <item jid='ca...@ca...' subscription='both'/><item jid='ca...@ca.../Jabberwocky' subscription='none' ask='subscribe'/> The ask='subscribe' is the giveaway. This needs to be treated as an incomming subscription request. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- You can respond by visiting: http://sourceforge.net/tracker/?func=detail&atid=463900&aid=549749&group_id=51273 |
