All- Sorry (in advance) if this is a redundant posting. I'm considering rolling out a wireless LAN at my residence. I have a friend that lives up the street and we'd like to bridge our two switched ethernet networks. We both only use Linux (blech to Windows). The questions we have are probably covered in a FAQ that I cannot locate. These questions include: Can you mix-and-match hardware? Example: Aironet cards connecting to a NetGear Access Point. Can you go straight PtP and use linux routing? Example: networkA -> linux router with wireless card -> air <- linux router with wireless card <- networkB Are there affordable Aironet bridges? If all our ether is switched, we don't really need a router do we? (Keep in mind our networks are our *home* networks) What is the real-life outdoor range? My friend lives about 3 houses away ( < 100m) - can we get a connection (even if it's only 1Mbps)? Hope someone can help me... Chris |
