Where we have a account to a ISP in the club build (wireless). The club is abet far form our houses so we want to set-up a wireless network so we can all connect from home. Our houses are about 7km max from the club. What is our best-bet working on a low budget. We have the server set-up already and a network in the building. > > What is the maximum distance a cisco aironet 340 series will cover? > What access point would be appropriate. > > > Victor Irene > vi...@cs... Victor, It sounds like you would be well served by going with something similiar to what we have in mind. The card selection won't matter a great deal (you'll find that any of the newer 802.11 cards are all 25 to 30 mw power output), what will matter however is your antenna selection. I like the Cisco/Aironet PCI/ISA cards personally because you don't need special adapters to plug them into an external antenna (just a cable with the right connectors on each end). We have recently purchased an 18 db gain omnidirectional antenna to serve as an anchor point for a network with a very similiar design, our plan is to point multiple directional antennas at this omnidirectional antenna. The guys at www.seattlewireless.net are doing something very similiar so you might see what information that have on their page at this point. We are hoping to have our second node online in about 2 weeks, I can let you know how it works out if you are interested. Bill |
