I just purchased two PCI 4800 LT adapters from Dell--their Home Wireless
Network--to connect two desktop Aptivas. One desktop runs Win98 and the
other is about 4 years old and still has Win95. The adapters installed
fine in both systems as far as I could tell and all diagnostics passed.
The two systems worked fine in ad hoc mode and using explorer I could
access files between the two systems. But, I found that while
transferring files, the data rate would degrade and finally slow down to
a crawl and the Win98 system would crash. I finally discovered that
with the PCI4800 Aironet adapter installed but with no other
appllications open (except the Sygate management software) the Win98
system resources would degrade over time, dropping from 62% to zero in
about 10 hours. During file transfers the system degrades very rapidly.
Basically the system isn't very useful this way! Any suggestions?
